Arrange your closets, drawers, shelves, and cabinets in a way that portrays you as a homeowner who is organized and ready for buyers to come and see your house.
Ohio Real Estate – Englewood House Buyers: When you looked at houses to buy, do you remember how you perceived those houses you looked at? Do you remember how you felt about homes that were neat and well organized, versus those that were somewhat disheveled and looked as though the owners weren’t expecting company? This is important to consider when you are trying to sell your house.
It’s best to give your whole house the appearance of organization and planed space. When potential buyers come to look at it they should get the sense that you are organized and that the house has been well cared for. This translates to well maintained for most buyers. Disorganization and messy places throughout the house may give the buyer an indication that perhaps you are too casual about taking care of the necessary details that go along with running a household.
A tidy appearance makes a good impression.
This is not difficult to do and can be completed by just about anyone, no matter how busy or involved your life may be. Just take it a small step at a time and before you know it you’ll have a house that looks like you might just be the envy of the local PTA.
Start with one room. Clear out all of the clutter. Put everything away that has a place. Then go to the cabinets, drawers, shelves, and closet spaces within that room and organize each of those areas one at a time. Taking smaller bites when cleaning and organizing is often a much easier way to get it done as it doesn’t seem to be so overwhelming. If you look at the whole house at once you could easily become discouraged.
The closets should have all clothing hung neatly on hangers with buttons buttoned and facing the same way. The shoes should be lined up neatly in pairs. Linens and towels can be folded the same way and neatly stacked by size and type.
When you get to the kitchen, don’t forget to do the cabinet under the sink, as most buyers will take a look under there. Organize the spices and condiments in the cabinet so that they are neatly in rows. Dishes can be stacked by size and color. Cups can be placed in neat rows by size and type. Coffee cups can be hung from cup hooks or lined up on the shelves in the cabinet with all handles going in the same direction. Buyers will look in all of these places, so it’s essential that you are prepared and give the impression of being organized.
